The Beatles

Call me an oldie, a retro boy or a wannabe, whatever! I don’t care! The Beatles have come to my attention and their music is making the most of getting my attention. Their songs are spectacular and splendid that it was no surprise that they have conquered the world and the hearts of the ladies of the 60’s. Even my parents can attest to the improbable and overwhelming success of the Beatles. And they really deserve it. It was just too bad that they had to split up. I think that the split was premature but it was just bound to happen as personal preferences, personal lives, musical choices and their egos started to intervene and disagree with each other that the split was imminent. Tsk. But hey, they provided the world with great and nipple-hardening music. A mix of rock and roll music with sentimental slow songs mostly made up the entire music scope of the Beatles.

Well, it was the common thing of the sixties as there were still no novelty, hard rock, alternative, pogi-rock, RNB and hip-hop genres at that time plus the fact that the period of 1950-1970 was the period of the rise and dominance of rock and roll.. So the music of The Beatles were a staple of the industry but the way the Beatles have done it is so special, taking the world by storm. The Fantastic Four made all ladies go gaga and scream at the top of their lungs for the Beatles. And I think… I think that it made their boyfriends insecure because The Beatles might take the ladies away from their boyfriends. I mean, that was possible with The Beatles.

Contemplating on their musical success, they had 10+ full studio albums which I can’t remember all the names and the exact count, they had tons of remastered albums, anthologies, greatest hits, live albums, what more kinds of albums do you want from them? The only album that the Beatles have not done is a tribute album, but of course. Duh. They will never do a tribute album to themselves. That would be too arrogant and stupid. Their music was the source of all revivals, remakes, and sadly, bastardized versions of songs. I mean some artists did a good job of covering Beatles songs for whatever reason and there are such artists which made disservice to the Beatles by making bad cover versions.

Let’s get a little more of the Beatles, this time with a summary of their history taken from Last.FM:

The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool, England. They played together starting in 1957 as The Quarrymen and from 1960 to 1969 as The Beatles.

Early on, the band consisted of George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Stuart Sutcliffe, and Pete Best. The band got its first major break playing in Hamburg, Germany at some rather seedy nightclubs. While in Germany, they also met Klaus Voormann, who would later design the cover of the group’s 1966 album Revolver. Stuart remained in Germany after the others decided to return to England, and married fellow artist Astrid Kirchherr, only to die a few years later of a brain haemorrhage. Later, Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Starr, the drummer from another big Liverpool band known as rory storm and the hurricanes. Ringo was supposed to play on their first single, “Love Me Do”, but producer George Martin had Alan White, a session drummer, play instead (Ringo can be heard on the album version of the song). Brian Epstein heard their sound and was thrilled enough to sign on as their manager.

In 1963, The Beatles initiated a craze known as “Beatlemania” in the UK with the song “Please Please Me.” Their first album of the same title was recorded in just one day. This fame spread internationally and, in February of 1964, they arrived in the United States. Their first appearance in the States was on the Ed Sullivan Show, following “I Want to Hold Your Hand” going #1 in the States. With this success, the Beatles released two feature length films within the space of two years: “A Hard Days’ Night” and “Help!”. The songs from both films were penned by Lennon and McCartney, and albums followed their release. In “Help!”, the Beatles were given greater creative freedom, deciding for example to head to the exotic location of the Bahamas simply to shoot one scene.

The members of this group were John Lennon (mainly guitars, sometimes keyboards & bass), Paul McCartney (mainly bass, sometimes guitars, keyboards & drums), George Harrison (mainly guitars), and Ringo Starr (drums). John and Paul were the main songwriters and singers, although songs penned by George started showing up more often on later albums. Ringo traditionally sang one song on each record. George Martin produced most of the Beatles’ records, and was a highly influential part of the band’s sound on most of their records.

For years, The Beatles showed an amazing talent for writing hit after hit. In 1966, they ceased performing in concert (apparently they could no longer hear themselves play over the crowds) and began exploring new sounds in the studio. This is especially apparent in albums such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Beatles, sometimes known as “The White Album.” The Beatles, in particular, has become a notorious album via its alleged influence on Charles Manson. The album is also classed as the band’s most experimental, perhaps down to the growing presence of Yoko Ono (Lennon’s wife), as demonstrated by the song ‘Revolution 9′ and also the band’s increasing use of hard drugs. The song “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” was rumoured to be an ode to LSD, although the band vehemently denied any link. After the death of Brian Epstein, the Beatles began to unravel at the seams. The Beatles officially split at the dawn of 1970, though Lennon had quit a year earlier. It has since been established that McCartney was the first to unofficially “quit” the band, leaving after the ill-fated recording sessions for the ‘Let It Be’ album.

The Beatles never reunited properly in the 1970s as they never fully recovered from the acrimony associated with their breakup. They did, however, make two new records in 1994, despite Lennon’s 1980 death, for the Anthology project. “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” were based on demo tapes made by Lennon and sent to McCartney by his widow Yoko Ono. They charted in the UK at #2 and #4 respectively.

George Harrison passed away in 2001. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney continue to make music. Ringo released “Choose Love” and Paul released “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard” both in 2005.

That is basically the history and the discography of the Beatles. After all these years, the mark that they have left in the music industry is indelible. Many people still appreciate the music of the Beatles during these times when pogi-rock, hip-hop and novelty rule the world and the period when any stupid bitch can enter the music industry, make an ear-deafening album and then still earn money. It sucks how these morons have taken over the music industry. Really, especially in the Philippine setting. They have taken advantage of the renaissance of OPM music and certainly made only bullshit. Oh sorry, I’m going off-topic. I’m just relating it to the way the Beatles took over the world by storm with legitimately good and appreciable music and not the crap we hear today in the radio. I mean there are many good musicians today but they are just overpowered with… i don’t know what to say with those music morons. I hope there will be more bands that will make legitimate music like the Beatles did. I don’t care about the popularity they get but as long as they make good ones, no problem with me.

I still can’t get enough of the many Beatles songs I have obtained. My Current Top 10 Favorites are:

  1. Magical Mystery Tour
  2. Michelle
  3. Ticket to Ride
  4. Here, There and Everywhere
  5. Till There Was You
  6. She Was Standing There
  7. Yesterday
  8. A Hard Day’s Night
  9. Love Me Do
  10. In My Life

I have listened to them all and I plan to stuff my Last.FM with it. LOLZ. I love the music of The Beatles even if you say that I’m an oldie. I don’t give a fuck about you. Go with the fucking and irritating mainstream of today, I’ll be with The Beatles.

THE BEATLES = FOREVER!!!

The Beatles!
