Dateless on Valentines Day? Uninspired with love? Got no love interest or relationship. You are not alone because the same is also true for me. I have no date, nobody’s asking me for a date and I’m uninspired with love. I’ve been single for the longest time because maybe nobody made the mistake of falling into my love trap techniques or plainly, nobody fell for my face and figure. Quite poor but it’s true. But wait, I have an old adage to pull out from my sleeve… “it’s better to be single”. This is maybe my best escape clause for this misfortune - appearing unaffected and gloating to the whole world that it’s better to be single during Valentines Day. But what the hell, that’s the lamest excuse ever made by fat, single, bitter people who have no dates for the Valentines Day. That’s just a lame rationalization and a lame fallacy. Because rationalization is a fallacy according to my hot and sexy logic professor. That also exudes bitterness and will significantly contribute to the number of wrinkles and pimples on my face. I’ll just accept it. I have no V-Day date for this year. But I’m with high hopes that I can hypnotize some girl next year to come and go dating with me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
So I’m here, stuck at home, going online and chatting and listening to the love songs on the radio while everyone else are having their dates. I know I’m not alone in this predicament but hell, almost everybody’s dying to have a date every Valentine’s Day. Even uglier people than me have their dates or they are looking for it if no one comes. Just to have a date of the opposite sex. There are those wise enough though that don’t look far away and tag along their friends or family as date objects for the Valentines Day. These people are more laudable than the people who die for dates who will they give flowers to or receive flowers from. Why is that? Will they really die if they have no dates?
Business is booming during V-Day. Valentines Day now is also filled with commercialism. It it just me or is it really true? Flowers, chocolates, cards, gifts, jewelry, gadgets, motels. Yes, motels. Why is it that (hotels and) motels are fully booked during the Valentines Day? I know that Valentines Day is for love but I really don’t know that the Valentines Day is the best time for couples to elope and have sexy time. Cupid did not ask the lovers to have sex; they only asked the lovers to fall in love with each other. That sounds awkward and corny, but okay I’m just readying you up for the next batch of sentences. Motels have their own marketing ploy to attract customers for the Valentines. Doesn’t matter anyway, the motels will still be mostly occupied if not full - because it’s the Valentines Day, the perfect day to express love and horniness for another person. Anito and Sogo Motels are the most common motels that people go to during this occasion. Oh also the Victoria Court. But I don’t really buy to these hotel and motel commercialism, because I have my own place to do these things that they’d be doing in hotels and motels.

I still remember the last Valentines Day that I gave something to my crush. That was Valentines Day 2002, I was in second year high school then. I gave her some chocolates, a flower and a Valentines Day Card. And I think some cheap plastic flowers to reinforce the roses that I gave initially. I think she received it well but I was the center of attraction of my classmates the whole day. They were coming up to me and teasing me all the time especially during the in-between class breaks. I was blushing and grinning from ear to ear that time - maybe because it was really my best chance to show off my feelings to my crush and the fact that she received it well really made me happy. Unfortunately, she had a a boyfriend from another section before I can make my move. I really felt hurt and sad like what an emo kid goes through. And that happened before the second year ended. OUCH. So you would immediately know that I’m a super torpedo and I really felt that I was not fit for her because she was beautiful and intelligent and I was just the Average Joe. But what’s nice after that is she became more open to me and she always smiled when my eyes met hers. I make it a point to smile back. And to blush. I’m such a flirt.
And may I remember, the schools’ promenades are coming in a few days - or maybe they are already done. Whatever. Somehow I’ve been a non-believer of the Junior-Senior Promenade because I thought then that these kinds of formal gatherings were only for college students. And the costs associated for these events are unfathomable for high school students. But that has been already the tradition so I just went with the flow. There’s nothing wrong in it anyway. I still attended so that I will not look like a loser in the batch. I just joined for compliance, basically. But I made sure that I will look good and really formal when I come so my mom brought me to this dermatology shop to get this treatment, and she also brought to a hair salon to give my hair a fix and to the wardrobe shop and bought me corporate attire. Well I guess I did not need the coat back then because my dad had a bunch of them and they were useful. When the JS prom time comes, everybody looks good, it’s as if we’re all attending an international convention in an international hotel. The ambiance is perfect for that scenario. Everybody’s actions are pure and refined. From eating to walking to conversation with fellow guests to the manner of dealing with cellphones, everything just seems so refined.
The dance part comes after the hours of refinement of manners and the pretention of being refined individuals is already over. The people go back to their real selves - freelancing, light, rowdy and naughty. You can see it in them especially when the hiphop and upbeat music playlists are played. People lose themselves in the music… but that has an ending and the slow music comes. This is the time for the lovers to get their dance and for the girls and guys to get to dance their crushes. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to dance with the crush that I was talking about in the last paragraph but I got to dance two friends, which is not bad at all. Some people were really close to the point wherein some people were already kissing. That’s understandable because they’re lovers. But as the dancing went on, I remember a priceless moment in my senior year promenade wherein the DJ announced to the people on the dance floor… “BAWAL PO TAYONG MAGHALIKAN!” I mean, what the fuck. Let the students enjoy themselves in the company of their boyfriends/girlfriends. I may not have one that time but I can understand what the lovers on the dance floor felt after that announcement. I was really pissed at that moment but I can’t really blame the guy because most likely, that mandate came from the discipline office. That announcement really sucked and kinda derailed the very good promenade, but still it was all nice.
It’s already February 15, Valentines Day is over but let not the loving and caring end. And especially the sexy times. LOL.
